Music education is foundational to early childhood development. Through music, young children learn to express themselves, make sense of the world, and become creative. Providing joyful music experiences is crucial for laying the foundation for higher learning skills across the curriculum and empowering young students to become musical people for a lifetime.

Language, auditory processing, pattern recognition, social-emotional learning, spatial awareness, critical thinking, problem-solving, and fine and large motor skills are among the cognitive processes that are enhanced by incorporating music into the early childhood environment. These skills prepare young students for future success in reading, writing, language acquisition, math, relationship building, self-awareness, and physical performance.

Music roots us in our culture while simultaneously allowing us to bridge cultural divides. Music provides an entry point for students to explore their identity and creatively express themselves. Different instruments, languages, styles, and traditions are explored and brought into the child’s awareness, fostering empathy, tolerance, and relationship-building across cultures.

At Firefly Preschool children are engaged daily in interactive music activities that include singing, movement, rhythm exploration, pitch exploration, instrument playing, and cooperative games, with a longer music lesson provided for each class one day each week. We believe that music plays an invaluable role in shaping young minds and preparing them for future success beyond the early childhood classroom by laying a strong foundation of skills for life-long learning.
