Firefly Preschool is thrilled to welcome back students this week. We have been busy designing our classrooms to feel inviting to our students and families, spark their curiosity, and encourage relationships, connection, communication, and collaboration through play.
We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to view our environment as the third teacher. In the Reggio approach, children's parents and teachers are their first and second teachers. By seeing the environment as an essential part of learning, we can be mindful of opening up our spaces for movement, creativity, problem-solving, experimentation, and open-ended play. We have incorporated a nature center, sensory experiences, large spaces for process art, room for music and dance, and quiet areas for reading and reflection.
Our outdoor space offers opportunities for large motor movements and connecting with the world around us. Children are invited to roll down our hill, walk along tree stumps, play at our outdoor sensory table, build homes for bugs with the supplies in our Bug Hotel, climb, slide, and imagine. We will harvest in our GROW garden this Fall and, through the generosity of our board members and their spouses, a mud kitchen is coming soon!
We can't wait to grow our brains, bodies, hearts, and spirits at Firefly this year! Learn more about our program at www.fireflypreschool.org. A BIG WELCOME to this year's Fireflies, we have been waiting for you!
